Warren's Birthday Bash

The City of Warren had a birthday bash this past weekend. While driving down Van Dyke, I tried everything I could think of to distract my kids from eyeing the fair. We looked at the building that Uncle Jimmy help build, we counted flags and even had them tell me what animals the clouds looked like. It didn't work. They immediately spotted the fair and all hell broke loose inside the car.
I agreed to stop for one ride each and that was it. Once we parked I realized that there was a ton of stuff for the kids to do. I called Jim and he meet up with us. They had a petting zoo and a bunch of city trucks for all of the kids to climb into to. Jimmy was so excited to see a monster truck and get an autograph picture from the driver.

Jimmy wanted to ride the bumble bees since it goes slow and is in his comfort zone.

Jen however decided she wanted to go on the Freak Out. Yep my daughter went on this ride with her Daddy. I was more then ok to sit and take pictures from the ground.

The ride twists and turns in the air. She truly has no fear what so ever. Jim said her eyes jumped out of her head .

She had the biggest smile on her face when she got off and wanted to immediately go back on. Her only complaint was that it was too short of a ride. Cedar Point her she comes.

Birthday in the park

Since Jen had already had a birthday party with her friends, we decided to have a small party at a local park. It was very simple with pizza and cake and all of her cousins.
The park has a huge play structure which all of the kids loved. They came down only for food and cake.

Even Aunt JuJu enjoyed the super fast slide. Your welcome Julie.

It was a Hello Kitty year. Not much fun for the boys I'm sure, which out numbered the girls by a bit.

Emily was excited to have bright pink lips courtesy of the frosting.

Jen received so many wonderful gifts which included Hello Kitty school supplies, Hello Kitty alarm clock, a Moxie doll, a ton of school clothes and art kits. She also got a Project Runway silk screen kit and sewing machine- perfect for my future fashion designer. All of the kids had fun and I'm sure they slept pretty good.

HAPPY 7TH BIRTHDAY JENEVIVE

I can't believe it's been 7 years already. The time has flown by in an instant. I can still remember the day I found out that I was pregnant. I sat staring at the test in total disbelief. Never in a million years did Jim and I think it would have been so easy to conceive.
I enjoyed everything about being pregnant: the morning sickness, the swollen feet, feeling her move and even the maternity clothes. We knew how blessed we were and I was thankful everyday for just being able to experience the whole thing.
I loved planing her nursery just right, shopping for girly clothes and reading every book possible. I had picked out a perfect name- I could picture just how perfect it would look on her future wedding invitation. She was our first baby and I wanted everything to be done perfectly. Life has a way of throwing a curve ball at you and that all goes out the window.
Due to very high blood pressure, I ended up having stress tests done every other day which led to bed rest and finally being induced a bit early. After a very LONG labor, my beautiful daughter was born on August 26th, 2003 at 4:55pm at 6lbs 10 oz and 19 inches long. She had huge blue eyes and was just as perfect as could be. She made me a Mommy.

Grandma Chance started out the birthday celebrations by bringing over a couple of outfits, one which she wore for her big day.

Too cute!! This is what seven looks like. Silver leggings, a purple sparkly skirt and a glitter top.

This year Jen wanted to have a spa day for a few of her friends. I found a beauty school where the girls could each have an up-do and pick either a manicure of pedicure. I would have loved this when I was little.

Jen got a poof in the front with a ton of curls and braids in the back. Each of the girl was excited to show off their own "do". I had bought them each a hot pink tiera which completed the look.

Lanie loved being with the older girl's and completely enjoyed her manicure. She chose Hot pink polish on one hand and purple on the other.

The fact that they could watch the Disney Chanel and the chairs have a remote which you can make them do just about anything was enough for the girls. They ruled the roost at the school. All of the students kept coming in and watching the girls have a blast.
Even though I didn't get an up-do or my nails done, I had just as much fun watching all of the girls faces light up the entire time.

This is the "before" picture.

And this is the "after".

All of the primping mad everyone hungry , so we headed out to Red Robbins for lunch. The girls loved all of the ooh's and awe's from everyone. They had so much fun showing off their new looks.

And after we had the best hello Kitty birthday cake. I love having my little girl. JimBobby would never go for all of this! Ha Ha!

She had a wait for her Daddy to come home before she opened up her gifts from Jimmy. He got her a paint your own Hello Kitty bank, a I Carly calender, two smelly pencils- they are supposed to smell- a pink top she had wanted and a few other things.

She loved all of her gifts and gave him a huge hug. We finished the day at Texas Roadhouse where they announced her birthday and stoped by Grandma and Papa Doptis' house. After a very long day, she crashed watching TV in my bed with her Daddy. Only 364 more days until she's 8!!!

GO FLY A KITE

Finally the weather has broken a bit to now be bearable, so we took the kids to the park to fly their kites.
Jen got the hang of it pretty fast, but for whatever reason, her kite decided to stop cooperating halfway through.

Jimmy needed some help at first, but his kite worked the best.

Had wanted me to bring the kite down so he could grab it and fly in the sky.

EAT EM UP TIGERS!!!!

Last week Jim's cousin had some extra Tiger tickets and offered them to us. I thought Jen might bow out and have want a girl's night, but she wanted to go as soon as she found out Avery was going to be there.
It's probably been at least 12 years since I have been to a Tigers game and this was the first time I had been to the new stadium.

Our seats were at the top of the bleachers, but couldn't have been better for us. It allowed the kids to roam a little with out getting in anyone else's way.

Jimmy is so easy going. Give him a bag a peanuts, and he'll sit still forever.

Jen and Avery enjoying the game along with frozen lemonade, cotton candy, pretzels and anything else they could find. They defiantly ate their way through the game.

Happy 17th Kidney Birthday to Jim!!!!

17 years ago today someone had to make the decision to donate their child's organs. I can't imagine how hard that was, but I am thankful every day that the choice was made to donate a kidney for Jim.

Everyone knows the story how he got the phone call in the middle of the night, how it was a record amount of transplants that day for Children's Hospital and how well Jim did afterwards. It could have been a totally different outcome-dialysis for years or even worse.

We are very aware of just how lucky Jim was to receive the kidney that night. If you look at the waiting list, you'll see Jim hit the lottery:

WAITING LIST FOR ORGANS
UNITED STATES
This table shows the number of candidates (men, women and children) who are waiting for organs for transplantation in the United States.

-More than 100,000 men, women and children currently need life-saving organ transplants.
-Every 10 minutes another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list.
-An average of 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant.
-In 2009, there were 8,021 deceased organ donors and 6,610 living organ donors resulting in 28,465 organ transplants.
-90% of Americans say they support donation, but only 30% know the essential steps to take to be a donor.

I know organ donation is a personal decision, but your decision to someday donate your organs could save up to eight lives. So, fill out the back of your license and let your family know your wishes.

ICE IN A CUP INVENTION - PATENT PENDING

This is the conversation between Jen and I this afternoon:

Jen: Hey Mom Guess what?
Me: What?
Jen: I invented something - ice in a cup!!!
Me: Really? You invented that?
Jen: Yep. It's the biggest piece of ice in a cup. You can just lick it like this. (insert vision of Jen licking ice from a bathroom cup with a huge proud smile on her face)
Me: Wow that's amazing, you should put a patent on it.
Jen: What's that?
Me: You go to a lawyer , fill out a bunch of paperwork and draw up a contract so no one can steal your idea.
Jen: Will you do that for me?
Me: Sure, I'll call the lawyer in the morning.
Jen: Thanks Mom! I have to get a suit to wear.

And there you go - the true story on how ice in a cup was invented.
